HOLLYWOOD PARK - Home of ZENYATTA!!    Zenyatta WINS the Vanity for a record 3rd time!!!!            She sets all time record for consecutive wins at 17!!!   CONGRATULATIONS!!!   Go Zenyatta!!!

NEWS:     A 'plan' for Hollywood Park....???  It is yet to be revealed -  but this is very intriguing.........see the following article:

***************************

Hollywood Park has now become the location for two more events of historic importance....

Hollywood Park is also the HOME of who could be (already is??)  the BEST racehorse we have ever seen!!

Please note: Hollywood Park reported that only 12,200 or so were in attendance for Zenyatta's race on June 13th - there is NO WAY this is accurate. Anyone who was there can attest to the fact there were likley close to 30,000 people.  The owner of Hollywood Park (Hollywood Park Land Co. aka Bay Meadows Land Co.) will DO ANYTHING to try to make the track look less profitable.

UPDATE:   OAK TREE TO RACE AT SANTA ANITA FOR 2010 ONLY:

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/57587/oak-tree-to-remain-at-santa-anita-in-2010

We love the tradition of Oak Tree at Santa Anita - however, with such a hostile landlord of MID, who does not want them there, Oak Tree is better served moving elsewhere and will do just fine at Hollywood Park in the future.

Previous news:  Interesting development for racing in California:  MI Developments, the owner of Santa Anitia Racetrack, has just ended it's lease to Oak Tree Racing.

See the following articles:

More good news for little ol' Hollywood Park!!!  Could we see the Breeders Cup return to Hollywood?

Maybe now the powers-that-be will fast track the implementation of Instant Racing games in California.  It is GUARANTEED TAX REVENUE FOR THE STATE - a real no-brainer here.

GO ZENYATTA!!

What's the next race for Zenyatta?  We'll let you know!

Zenyatta WINS the Vanity!!!  See it here along with a great article:

http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/racing-news/2010/June/13/Zenyatta-wins-Vanity.aspx

She is now the record holder of not only three Vanity Stakes in a row, but 17, count'em, 17 consecutive wins!!!

Check out her recent romp (or, workout, as it were...) in the Apple Blossom:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0o9XXleaAA

And check out the Santa Margarita  - she could do a pirouette down the stretch and STILL win!:

http://www.bing.com/videos/watch/video/zenyatta-2010-santa-margarita-handicap/843d578a652442f6913a843d578a652442f6913a-1757070820653

Now onto her breeding......here's a wonderful idea (for which credit must be given to a friend - you know who you are!!)............After she is bred to whoever the Moss' choose to breed her to (without a doubt, it will be to one of the top stallions in the country), BUT, get her back to the lovely climate  IN CALIFORNIA to give birth to the foal.  Imagine the impact that a Cal Bred foal out of Zenyatta will have on California breeding - and racing!!

We encourage you to get out to Hollywood Park some morning and hopefully get a glimpse of the beautiful Zenyatta during a workout.

If anyone wonders why we are so passionate about horse racing, and passionate about saving Hollywood Park - home to the immortal Zenyatta and many many others (just take the time to look over the Gold Cup wall) - this is what it is all about....take a look at this:

If we lose Hollywood Park, we lose so much.  California Racing is on top right now, thanks to the likes of the great horseman John Shirreffs, owners Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss, and of course, the great Zenyatta. They all call Hollywood Park home (among many, many other greats).  If Hollywood Park goes, so do our great horses, trainers and owners!!!!!!!

Call the City of Inglewood - they are the "Home of Zenyatta" - and need to market that fact.

THE LEGISLATURE IS OFF UNTIL AUGUST -

The California Legislative Counsel issued an opinion on June 21, 2006.
They said: "Instant Racing machines are no more slot machines than the machines currently used to place bets on live horse races." They go on to say that there is no requirement in the CA Constitution that horse races be live in order to wager on them and that they may be regulated by the State Legislature.

In other words, the Legislature only has to approve the bill to make it law.

GO TO THE "HOW YOU CAN HELP" PAGE FOR MORE PHONE NUMBERS OF THE SENATORS ON THE SELECT COMMITTEE ON CALIFORNIA HORSE RACING.

Now is the time to TAKE ACTION and contact the legislature regarding gaming (instant racing games, and even sports books) in California.

DO YOUR PART

We need to pressure Sacramento for additional gaming at the tracks. The State of California is about to go bankrupt, with no real ideas to end the problem.  Think of the expansion of the JOB BASE which would be created by this, and the DRASTICALLY INCREASED REVENUE to the city, county and California.

The indian tribes should NOT have a MONOPOLY on gaming in the State - they are not helping - where is all that tax revenue that was promised?

And in case you are not aware, the Indians are now SUING CHARITIES for using electronic bingo machines.

The CA Legislature needs to find ways to bring in money to the State, Gaming is a way to do it. The CA Legislature needs to allow instant racing games at the tracks, effective IMMEDIATELY.

By keeping gaming limited to EXISITING gambling venues, the public will not have to worry about the "slot machine in the grocery store" scenario. Keep it tied to horse racing, as this benefits the enitre horse industry and all connected industries immensely up and down the State - an already $5 BILLION industry.  IT'S ABOUT THE ECONOMY! And if the middle-class job base that now exists at Hollywood park (and other tracks) is elimated, that is only another nail in the coffin of this the State of Califorina.

Other states are getting on board with Insntant Racing, intrastate internet poker, sports books, etc.

This site has been created to promote the preservation and continued operation of the historic Hollywood Park.  For  over 70 years, Hollywood Park has brought excitement, history-making racing, and beauty to Southern California.

We believe the City of Inglewood, County of Los Angeles, State of California and the entire nation have a treasure right here in Inglewood.  From the famous racehorses who raced here and who are memorialized here, to the famous people who orginally founded it, Hollywood Park is worth preserving.    If you have never visited, it is a MUST SEE, whether you have lived here all your life, or are just visiting.

We are a grassroots organization interested in preserving Hollywood Park for all time.  It is our understanding that the City of Inglewood and the current owner of Hollywood Park have plans to develop the property into a low-end retail facility (i.e.  discount stores, fast food, etc.).  If Inglewood would like to better the quality of life for it's residents - as it has a responsibilty to do - building the faceless, low-end retail establishments does not seem like the best choice.
